Tips & Help

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
Changing colour tip: Beg approx 25 cm in on a new ball of yarn. The thread ends are used for sewing squares tog afterwards.
Measurement tip: It is important to adhere to the knitting tension to make the squares quadratic. The diagonal of 1 square x 2 = length of slipper.
Colours: For slipper in 2 colours, see pattern. Work the slipper in 8 colours after colour diagram M.1A and M.1B.
M.1A = Slipper 1.
M.1B = Slipper 2.
Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows.
Squares: See M.2 for square numbers.
Assembly: See M.2 for assembly instructions. M.3 shows the squares’ positioning after assembly.

Slipper: Worked back and forth on needle in squares, sewn tog afterwards. See Changing colours tip!
Cast on 10-11-12 sts on needle size 7 mm with purple (for slipper in 8 colours, see explanation above). See Measuring tip! Work garter st – see above – for 8.5-9-10 cm (= square 1), change to plum and work garter st for 8.5-9-10 cm (= square 2). Continue like this working purple and plum squares alternately until you have 3 purple and 3 plum squares (= 6 squares in total). Piece now measures 51-54-60 cm, cast off. Now pick up 10-11-12 sts on right side of square 2 with purple (= square 7), work 8.5 -9-10 cm garter st, cast off. Pick up 10-11-12 sts on left side of square 6 with plum (= square 8) and work like square 7.
Assembly: Fold slipper and sew tog, edge to edge, as described in M.2. The sole of the slipper = 24-26-28 cm. Knit another slipper in the same way.
Crochet border: Crochet round the opening of slipper with crochet hook size 8 mm and colour of your choice as follows (beg mid back): * 1 dc, 2 ch *, repeat from *-*, and finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round.
