About Yarn in General

All our yarns are of the highest quality, made from pure, natural materials and/or new synthetic mixes. We work with some of the finest mills in Europe, all subordinated to tight quality controls in terms of use of chemicals when producing and dying yarn. In line with these controls, each dye lot within high-risk colours (dark colours) is tested (washed) before being delivered to our warehouses. We also conduct continuous spot checks of our yarns with the Textile Institute in order to secure the highest quality, of wearing quality as well as colour fastness. All our pure wool yarns carry the Woolmark symbol from IWS (International Wool Secretariat).

Whatever you feel like knitting, be it a woollen sweater, a denim-yarn jumper, a mohair cardigan or trendy accessories, you’ll be sure to find a suitable yarn in our vast collection of quality yarn.

In this category, you’ll find exciting quality mixes. All our mixes are the latest qualities from mills in Southern Europe, selected to match this season’s fashion trends. Synthetic fibres have been used in some qualities to give the yarn increased wearing qualities and striking structures.

Polyester: a synthetic fibre with the highest wearing qualities. The combination of wearing quality and elasticity makes polyester particularly suitable to mix with yarn of less wearing quality.

Viscose: fibre produced from cellulose, and the most widely used fibre within the textile industry. Viscose is often mixed with cotton, wool and other synthetic fibres.

Nature’s masterpiece, used for clothing for centuries! Wool has the unique ability to insulate against both cold and heat and is therefore widely used all over the world, from the scorching deserts of the Sahara to the tundra of Siberia... and everywhere in between... It’s the natural, curly fibres, creating small air pockets in the yarn, which provide this unique quality. A knitted, woollen jumper contains approximately 80% air, and thus creates a bag of air round the body, maintaining a stable, natural body temperature. The wool fibres are very elastic and make garments extremely durable and shape-stable.

C o t t o n

A unique natural fibre, harvested from the approximately 1.5m tall cotton plant. Because cotton fibres breathe and attract moisture easily, knitted garments feel cool as well as warm, and are particular suitable for people with sensitive skin, as the yarn is extremely soft and gentle on the skin.

The Chinese kept the secret of silk for more than a thousand years! Silk is an animal fibre, derived from the cocoon that certain caterpillars create whilst developing into butterflies. The cocoon is approximately 3 cm long and contains up to 4000 m silk thread.

The cocoon consists of three layers and it’s the middle part that is used to spin silk. The cocoons are placed in hot water to remove the outer layer and then the spinning of the middle layer begins. The number of cocoons determines the thickness of the silk thread. The basic silk is called raw silk and by spinning one or more threads together using different spinning techniques, various qualities of silk are created. Silk makes beautiful, slightly shiny garments, and is very comfortable to wear.
