Knitting Tension: 11 sts x 22 rows on needles size 8 mm in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm.
Garter sts (back and forth on row): Knit all rows.
Increasing tips: Inc by making a yo. On the returning row knit into back of yo to avoid making a hole.
Right mitten: Knitted back and forth on needle and sewn tog afterwards. Cast on 24 (27) sts on needle size 8 mm with Eskimo. Knit 1 row and continue in Rib, K1/P2. When piece measures 10 (12) cm dec 4 sts evenly = 20 (23) sts. Knit 8 rows garter sts. Now insert a marking thread in the 9th (11th ) st (= marking for thumb). Inc 1 st on each side of the MT on every other row a total of 2 times – read Increasing tips = 24 (27) sts. Now put the new sts incl the st with MT + 1 st each side on a thread for thumb = 7 sts. Continue in garter sts over the remaining 17 (20) sts until piece measures approx 24 (27) cm. Now knit all sts tog 2 by 2 = 9 (10) sts left. Cut the thread and pull it through remaining sts, sew tight.
Thumb: Put the 7 thumb sts back on needle and knit 2 rows garter sts, at the same time inc 2 sts = 8 (9) sts. Knit 6 rows garter sts. On next row knit tog the first 2 and the last 2 sts = 6 (7) sts. Repeat the dec on next row = 4 (5) sts. Cut the thread, pull it through remaining sts and sew tight.
Left mitten: Cast on and knit as right mitten, but insert the marking thread in the 12th (13th) st.
Assembly: Sew the side seams and the thumb seam tog in the outer most loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam.
