Crochet gauge: 8 sc/dc in width and approx. 7 rows in height (that is, an average of rows with sc and dc) = 10 x 10 cm.
Crochet tips: Replace the first sc of each sc row with ch 1 and the first dc of each dc row with ch 3.
Every row ends with 1 sc/dc in ch from previous row.
Structure pattern: See the chart (Diag. 1). Crochet in each sc/dc from previous row, not between.
= 1 ch
= 1 sc
= 1 dc
Stripe pattern: See the chart (M.2). 1 row on the chart = 1 row of sc or dc in Diag. 1.
= 1 strand natural Symphony
= 1 strand Alaska + 1 strand oatmeal Silke-Tweed
= 1 strand beige Symphony
= 1 strand Eskimo
= 1 strand Alaska + 1 strand oatmeal Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Glitter
= 1 strand Alaska + 1 strand natural white Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Glitter
Deceasing tips: Bind off or dec as follows:
At the start of row: replace 1 sc or 1 dc with 1 sl st.
At the end of row: turn piece when the number of sc/dc to be decreased remains, and crochet back.
Back: Ch loosely 46-51-55-61-67 with Eskimo.
First row crochet as follows: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in the next ch, * skip over 1 ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 ch *, repeat * - * across row – in Sizes S + L + XL + XXL end with 1 sc in each of the last 3 ch (instead of the last 2 ch) = 32-35-38-42-46 sc, turn the work.
Crochet 1 row sc back, then continue in Structure pattern as shown in Diag.1, in stripes following Pattern 2 to finished measurements.
When the piece measures 12 and 24 cm inc at each side by crocheting 1 extra sc/dc in the next to outermost sc/dc at each side = 36-39-42-46-50 sc/dc.
When the piece measures 37-38-39-40-41 cm bind off for armhole at each side – see decreasing tips above: 3 sc/dc 1 time, 2 sc/dc 0-0-0-1-2 times and 1 sc/dc 0-1-2-2-2 times = 30-31-32-32-32 sc/dc.
When the piece measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62 cm crochet only over the outermost 10 sc/dc at each side (do not crochet over the center 10-11-12-12-12 sc/dc = neck).
When the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm cut yarn and fasten.
Left front: Ch loosely 24-27-28-31-34 with Eskimo. First row crochet as follows: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in the next ch, * skip over 1 ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 *, repeat * - * across row – in Sizes L + XL + XXL end with 1 sc in each of the last 3 ch (instead of the last 2 ch) = 17-19-20-22-24 sc, turn the work.
Crochet 1 row sc back, then continue in Structure pattern as shown in Diag.1, in stripes following Pattern 2 to finished measurements.
When the piece measures 16 and 28 cm inc at the side as on back = 19-21-22-24-26 sc/dc.
When the piece measures 37-38-39-40-41 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back = 16-17-17-17-17 sc/dc.
When the piece measures 49-51-53-55-57 cm bind off for the neck as follows: crochet as before from shoulder edge to last 3-4-4-4-4 sc/dc, turn the work. Then bind off every row for the neck 2 sc/dc 1 time and 1 sc/dc 1 time = 10 sc/dc remain on shoulder. When the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm (to match Back length) cut yarn and fasten.
Right front: Crochet the same as left, reversing shaping.
Sleeve: Ch loosely 25-27-27-28-28 with Eskimo. First row crochet as follows: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in the next ch, * skip over 1 ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 ch *, repeat * - * across row – in Sizes S + XL + XXL end with 1 sc in each of the last 3 ch (instead of the last 2 ch) = 18-19-19-20-20 sc, turn the work.
Crochet 1 row sc back, then continue in Structure pattern as shown in Diag.1, in stripes following Pattern 2 to finished measurements.
When the piece measures 10 cm inc 1 sc/dc at each side every approx. 8.5-8.5-7-6-5 cm a total of 5-5-6-6-7 times = 28-29-31-32-34 sc/dc – inc by crocheting 1 extra sc/dc in the next to outermost sc/dc at each side.
When the piece measures 48-48-47-45-44 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every row: 3 sc/dc 1 time, 2 sc/dc 1 time and 1 sc/dc 1-2-3-5-7 times. Then bind off 2 sc/dc at each side until piece measures 56-57-57-57-58 cm, cut yarn and fasten.
Assembly: Sew shoulder seams edge to edge.
Collar: Crochet approx. 30 - 36 sc around the neck with Eskimo. Continue in Structure pattern as shown in Diag.1, in stripes following Pattern 2 to finished measurements. At the same time inc and dec as follows:
Front: When the collar measures 2 cm inc 1 sc/dc at the center front approx. every 3 cm a total of 3 times.
When the collar measures 9 cm dec 1 sc/dc at each side of the neck (corners) every row a total of 2 times.
Back: When the collar measures approx. 4 cm inc 4 sc/dc over the center 10-11-12-12-12 sc/dc – inc 1 sc/dc by crocheting 2 sc/dc in the same sc/dc.
When the collar measures 12 cm cut yarn and fasten.
Button band: Crochet 2 rows sc with Eskimo along left front – start from right side and work enough sc so that it is not too tight, and also be sure to not work too many so the buttonband is loose. It should be a firm edge. Repeat along right front but on 1st row make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed – the top buttonhole should be approx. 1 cm from neckband and the bottom approx. 2 cm from bottom edge. 1 buttonhole = 2 sc in the same st, then crochet together the next 2 sc (crochet 1 sc but do not pull yarn through the last loop (leave on hook), crochet 2nd sc and pull yarn through all loops on hook.
Finished edge: Crochet 1 row sc around entire edge of the cardigan with Eskimo – crochet from right side with 1 sc in every sc. Start at lower edge on right front, continue up along buttonband, around the collar and then down along left buttonband.
Sew in sleeves – where this is difficult, you can crochet sleeve into armhole by working 1 sc alternately on sleeve cap and armhole.
Sew sleeve and side seams in one edge to edge. Sew buttons on left buttonband.
