Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side.

Heel: Dec for heel as follows:
Row 1 (= RS): Work row until 6-7-7 sts left on needle, slip 1 st as if to knit, K1, psso, turn piece.
Row 2 (= WS): Work row until 6-7-7 sts left on needle, slip 1 st as if to knit, P1, psso, turn piece.
Row 3 (= RS): Work row until 5-6-6 sts left on needle, slip 1 st as if to knit, K1, psso, turn piece.
Row 4 (= WS): Work row until 5-6-6 sts left on needle, slip 1 st as if to knit, P1, psso, turn piece
Continue to dec like this with 1 less st before dec until there are 12-12-14 sts left on needle.

Sock: Knitted in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 60-66-72 sts on needle size 2.5 mm and work 2 rounds stocking st. Now work 4 rounds Rib, *K3, P3*, repeat from *-*. Continue in Rib on the first 12 sts on round, work M.1 on the next 39-45-51 sts and Rib on the last 9 sts. Continue like this until piece measures 17-18-19 cm. Now keep the first 15 sts on needle, put the next 33-39-45 sts on a thread (= mid upper foot) and keep the last 12 sts on needle = 27 sts for heel. Work 1 row in stocking st on heel sts, at the same time dec 5-3-1 sts evenly = 22-24-26 sts. Continue in stocking st back and forth on needle for 5-5.5-6 cm. Insert a Marking Thread (MT) (to measure from) and now dec for heel – see Heel dec above. After dec pick up 13-14-16 sts on either side of heel and put the 33-39-45 sts from thread back on needle = 71-79-91 sts on round. Insert a MT on either side of the 33-39-45 sts mid upper foot and continue in M.1 on upper foot and work remaining sts in stocking st. At the same time dec each side of heel as follows: K2 tog into back of st before sts in M.1 and K2 tog after sts in M.1, on every other row a total of 9-11-14 times = 53-57-63 sts. Continue until piece measures 18-19-21 cm from MT in heel and now insert a MT each side with 27-29-31 sts on upper foot and 26-28-32 sts under foot. Continue in stocking st on all sts, at the same time dec 1 st on both sides of each MT on every other round a total of 4-6-8 times and then on every round 6-5-4 times (dec before MT: K2 tog, dec after MT: K2 tog into back of st) = 13-13-15 sts. On next row K tog all sts 2 by 2, cut the thread and pull through remaining sts.
Crochet picot border: Crochet a border round the top of the sock with crochet hook size 3 mm. Beg mid back and work border as follows: 1 dc, “3 ch, 1 tr in the first ch, skip approx 1 cm (i.e. K3 of P3 in Rib), 1 dc in next st*, repeat from *-* and finish with a sl st in dc from beg of round.
