Clue #1 - Do you want to knit a snowman?

Did you get the yarn for the sweater? If you still didn’t you can see a list of the materials here.

If you have the yarn, then you are ready to start with the back piece - remember that we have videos to show you how to cast on, how to knit a rib, how to knit garter stitch, how to bind off and much more - everyone can do this!

Will you make the sweater in kids' or adult's size? And with or without the snowman silhouette on the back? You'll find both patterns (with both alternatives) below - but make sure to pay attention, they are quite different!


Children's Sweater

Size: 2 - 3/4 - 5/6 - 7/8 - 9/10 - 11/12 years

Sizes (by height in inches): 36 – 38 1/2/41 - 43/46 - 48/50 - 53/55 - 57/60

You can make this sweater with or without the snowman showing in the back. Choose below which of both options to follow.

Back piece without snowman

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN: RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): 1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.
Back piece is worked back and forth with circular needle from the bottom to the top.
Cast on 52-54-58-60-64-68 stitches with circular needle size US 7 /4.5 mm and medium grey Air or grey Nepal. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until the piece measures 2 inches, change to circular needle size US 9 /5.5 mm and then work stocking stitch until the piece measures 9-10-11-12-13-14 inches. Now cast off 1 stitch in each side for armhole = 50-52-56-58-62-66 stitches. Work until piece measures 13-14-15-17-18-20 in. Now cast off the middle 16-18-20-22-22-24 stitches for neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue with stocking stitch and cast off 1 stitch on next row from neck = 16-16-17-17-19-20 stitches left on shoulder. Continue working until piece measures 13-14-15-17-19-20 in, work 2 RIDGES, see description above, over all stitches, then LOOSELY cast off. The piece measures approx. 14-15-16-18-19-21 inches from the shoulder down. Work the other shoulder in the same way.

Back piece with snowman

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN:
RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

PATTERN:
See diagram A.2
Diagram A.2 (snowman): The whole diagram is worked in stocking stitch. Worked with 3 balls, so that you avoid long carrying loops on the wrong side. In other words, work with 1 ball of medium grey Air/ grey Nepal on each side of jumper and 1 ball of pattern colour in middle of jumper. NOTE: To avoid holes when changing colours, you need to twist the strands together. See Video: How to knit with 3 skeins at the same time

Back piece is worked back and forth with circular needle from the bottom to the top. Cast on 52-54-58-60-64-68 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and medium grey Air or grey Nepal. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until piece measures 2 in, change to circular needle size 5.5 mm and then work stocking stitch. When piece measures approx. 2-3-3-4-4-4 inches work as follows from right side: 13-14-16-17-19-21 stitches stocking stitch, A.2 (= 26 stitches) - read PATTERN, 13-14-16-17-19-21 stitches stocking stitch. Continue in this way until piece measures 9-10-11-12-13-14 in. Now decrease 1 stitch in each side for armholes = 50-52-56-58-62-66 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and A.2. When A.2 has been completed, work stocking stitch and medium grey Air / grey Nepal until piece measures 13-14-15-17-18-20 inches. Now cast off the middle 16-18-20-22-22-24 stitches for neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue with stocking stitch and cast off 1 stitch on next row from neck = 16-16-17-17-19-20 stitches left on shoulder. Continue working until piece measures 13-15-16-17-19-20 inches, work 2 RIDGES (see description above) over all stitches, then LOOSELY cast off. Piece measures approx. 14-15-16-17-19-21 inches from shoulder down. Work the other shoulder in the same way.

Adult jumper

You can make this jumper with or without the snowman showing in the back. Choose below which of both options to follow.

Back piece without snowman

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN:
RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

INCREASE TIP (raglan): All increases are worked from the right side!

Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, knit 1, 1 yarn over, work until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. On the next row, purl the yarn overs - to leave holes.

BACK PIECE:
The piece is worked back and forth, top down, with circular needle and with raglan increases.

Cast on 22-24-24-28-30-34 stitches (including 1 edge stitch in each side) with circular needle size US 11/8 mm and medium grey. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH - see description above, in each side. At the same time on the next row increase 1 stitch in each side - read INCREASE TIP (raglan) above! Increase in this way every 2nd row a total of 13-14-15-16-17-19 times = 48-52-54-60-64-72 stitches - REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!

Work 4-4-4-2-2-2 rows without increases. The piece measures approx. 8-8-9-9-9-11 inches. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Then cast on 2-2-3-3-4-4 new stitches for armholes at the end of the next 2 rows = 52-56-60-66-72-80 stitches.

Continue with stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side until the piece measures 12-11-12-12-13-12 inches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm and work 1 row stocking stitch where you increase 2-2-2-0-2-2 stitches evenly on row = 54-58-62-66-74-82 stitches. Then work as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work A.1 (= 4 stitches) until there is 1 stitch left, work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue until A.1 has been worked in height. Cast off LOOSELY with knit over knit and purl over purl.

Back piece with snowman

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN:
RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

INCREASE TIP (raglan): All increases are worked from the right side!

Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, knit 1, 1 yarn over, work until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. On the next row, purl the yarn overs - to leave holes.

PATTERN:
Diagram A.2 (snowman):
The whole diagram is worked in stocking stitch. Work with 3 balls so that you avoid long carrying strands on the wrong side. In other words, you work with 1 ball medium grey on each side of the jumper and 1 ball of pattern colour in the middle. NOTE: To avoid a hole when changing colours, the strands must be twisted together. See Video: How to knit with 3 skeins at the same time

BACK PIECE:
The piece is worked back and forth, top down, with circular needle and with raglan increases.

Cast on 22-24-24-28-30-34 stitches (including 1 edge stitch in each side) with circular needle size 8 mm and medium grey. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH (see description above) in each side. At the same time on the next row increase 1 stitch in each side - read INCREASE TIP (raglan) above! Increase in this way every 2nd row a total of 13-14-15-16-17-19 times = 48-52-54-60-64-72 stitches - REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! - AT THE SAME TIME when there are 40-40-44-44-50-56 stitches on the row start pattern. I.e. the next row is worked as follows (including increases in each side): Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, knit 1, 1 yarn over (= increase), knit 5-5-7-7-10-13 stitches, diagram A.2 (= 26 stitches)-Read PATTERN above, knit 5-5-7-7-10-13 stitches, 1 yarn over (= increase), knit 1 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch = 42-42-46-46-52-58 stitches. Continue pattern and increases until you have 48-52-54-60-64-72 stitches.

Work 4-4-4-2-2-2 rows without increases. The piece measures approx. 8-8-9-9-9-11 inches. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Then cast on 2-2-3-3-4-4 new stitches for armholes at the end of the next 2 rows = 52-56-60-66-72-80 stitches.

Continue with stocking stitch and pattern with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When A.2 has been worked in height, the piece measures 11-11-11-11-10-10 inches. Continue working with medium grey as before until the piece measures 12-11-12-12-13-12 inches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm and work 1 row stocking stitch where you increase 2-2-2-0-2-2 stitches evenly on row = 54-58-62-66-74-82 stitches. Then work as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work A.1 (= 4 stitches) until there is 1 stitch left, work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue until A.1 has been worked in height. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - make sure the cast-off edge is not tight.

Bonjour Hélène, ce pull se tricote de bas en haut, en rond jusqu'aux emmanchures, on monte le nombre de mailles de la circonférence du bas du pull, on joint en rond et on tricote en rond comme indiqué. Bon tricot!

Bonjour Blandine, tout à fait, le haut du pull se tricote en jersey, pas au point mousse. La bordure se fait en côtes 1/1 pour le pull enfant et en côtes fantaisie (A.1) pour le pull adulte. Bon tricot!
